We are excited to share that LERIS participated in the 10th IEEE International Conference on Network Softwarization (NetSoft’24), held from June 24 to 28, 2024, in St. Louis, MO, USA.

Thiago Caproni represented LERIS at the event, presenting our innovative research and advanced solutions in the field of network softwarization. His participation highlighted the high caliber of work being done by our team and brought international recognition to our efforts.

With great enthusiasm, we announce the participation of the LERIS team at the Brazilian Symposium on Computer Networks and Distributed Systems (SBRC’24), held from May 20 to 24, 2024. This event, one of the most important in the country in the area of networks and computing, was the stage for discussions and presentations on the latest advances in the sector.

The LERIS team, led by Professor Fábio Verdi, actively participated in the symposium, standing out for the collaborative and innovative work of their students. Among the projects presented, the team made significant contributions to the search for intelligent and efficient solutions for distributed networks and systems.

The papers presented at SBRC’24 addressed relevant and current topics, demonstrating LERIS’s commitment to cutting-edge research and technological innovation. The team’s participation not only reinforces the importance of our laboratory in the academic and scientific scenario but also contributes to the development and application of new technologies in Brazil.

With pride, we announce the participation of LERIS, represented by Professor Fábio Verdi, at the IEEE/IFIP Network Operations and Management Symposium (NOMS’24) held in South Korea. Professor Verdi’s attendance at this prestigious event is a reflection of the collective efforts and innovative spirit of the LERIS team.

At NOMS’24, Professor Verdi presented two full papers, showcasing the cutting-edge research conducted at LERIS and emphasizing our team’s commitment to contributing to the global community in network operations and management.

Felipe A. S. Novais, Fábio L. Verdi.  Unlocking Security to the Board: An Evaluation of SmartNIC-driven TLS Acceleration with kTLS.

Felipe Novais defended his Master’s thesis entitled “Aludel: Transparent Crypto-Offloading for Enhanced Legacy Application Security”. We would like to thank the jury members: Marco Aurelio Amaral Henriques (UNICAMP), Christian Rodolfo Esteve Rothenberg (UNICAMP) and Fabio Luciano Verdi (UFSCar).

Leandro Cavalcanti de Almeida defended his PhD thesis entitled “Enhancing QoS in Adaptive Video Streaming Through a Smart Closed Loop in Programmable Networks”. Thanks for the jury: Luciano Gaspary, Rodrigo Miani, Hermes Senger e Guilherme Piegas.

LERIS research group got three papers accepted (two as full and one as short) in the IEEE NOMS 2024 conference. The paper “TimeGAN as a Simulator for Reinforcement Learning Training in Programmable Data Planes.“, lead by the Post-doc Thiago Caproni, shows that GANs are quite useful for enhancing Reinforcement Learning by means of generating synthetic data from the programmable data plane. The paper “Unlocking Security to the Board: An Evaluation of SmartNIC-driven TLS Acceleration with kTLS“, lead by Msc student Felipe A. S. Novais, reveals several takeaways regarding crypto functions offloading in a smartNIC. The paper shows that, in certain setups, offloading of crypto functions to the smartNIC may not bring gains.

Finally, the paper “Detecting Network-Wide Heavy Hitters in Multi-Pipe Programmable Devices”, accepted as short, lead by the Msc student Thiago Henrique Silva Rodrigues, proposes a mechanism for collecting network-wide heavy-hitter flows in multi-pipes switches.
